Food Allergies, Intolerances and Medical Needs
Moravian University Dining locations are equipped and dedicated to accommodate customers who have food allergies, Celiac disease, or other dietary needs. Our managers communicate daily with customers, in order to provide safe, healthy, and delicious options. Your campus dining experience should be enjoyable and Sodexo takes pride in creating site-specific options where customers with allergies can safely choose and enjoy their meals. We want to meet one-on-one with anyone who has individual dining needs to ensure that your dining experience is safe, delicious, and social.
Moravian University Dining, in 2021, was the first University in the nation to be FARECheck Gold certified at our Simple Servings station, passing a top level audit by an independent FARE auditor with no recommendations. Moravian University Dining is a proud member of the FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) database, to promote allergy awareness and improve the quality of life for students with food allergies. Find our profile in FARE's database here. More information can be found on the FARE website at Preparing for College.
The Star Student Restaurant does not serve or include peanuts or tree nuts in recipes prepared in the facility with the exception of coconut or coconut oil in some dishes, desserts and dessert toppings. We take preventive measures to keep peanuts and tree nuts from entering the facility.*While procedures are taken in the Star Student Restaurant, we cannot guarantee products from vendors and suppliers do not pose a risk for cross contact in manufacturing nor can we totally eliminate the risk of cross-contact in our facility.*Packaged nuts and nut butters, and other products made with nuts are sold in the Blue & Grey Café.
Simple Servings (in The Star Campus Restaurant)
Simple Servings is our allergen-safe, dining option for our customers with food allergies, gluten intolerance, or those who prefer plain and simple foods. The Simple Servings station offers food free from common allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, sesame, and eggs.
All foods offered are also free from gluten-containing ingredients. Simple Servings staff members are carefully trained to avoid cross-contact with food allergens. Separate equipment, storage areas, utensils and preparation areas minimize, but do not totally eliminate, the chances of gluten and allergens in our Simple Servings foods. 75% of Simple Servings items also meet our Mindful criteria, which makes it an easy and healthy choice for customers who are focused on ingredients and portion size to control weight, blood sugar and other health issues.
SimpleZone (in The Star Campus Restaurant & Clewell Dining)
Simple Zone is our campus “pantry” where food items needed by students with Celiac disease or food allergies can be housed with precautions against cross-contact. This special area is free of gluten-containing ingredients, as well as tree nuts and peanuts. Simple Zone gives students the ability to be involved in their own allergen-safe meal preparation. Simple Zone includes gluten-free bread products, baked goods, waffles, prepared sandwiches, desserts, and gluten-free appliances like a toaster, and microwave.
If You Have an Allergy, Intolerance or Medical Need
For students with medical conditions that impact their ability to dine well on campus, we strongly encourage a conversation with our Registered Dietitian, Executive Chef and/or our General Manager. In many instances, our dining team can easily assist with special needs.
Occasionally, Dining Services cannot meet a student’s medical needs within normal service. We may require additional medical documentation to enable us to develop a more specific meal plan accommodation. In this situation, we ask that the student contact the Moravian University Office of Disability & Accommodation (ODA). Together, our departments work to serve our students with medical needs related to dining on campus. Visit the ODA's page about accommodations. Contact Director Tracy Urban via email or call 610-861-1401.
